UNLOCKED VEHICLE TARGETED BY THIEF
Lock it or lose it!
(PEMBROKE, ON) – The Upper Ottawa Valley Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is investigating after a wallet was stolen from an unlocked vehicle parked in the 300 block of Maple Avenue in the City of Pembroke. The theft occurred during the overnight hours of September 21 to September 22, 2020. The victim’s credit card was subsequently used to make purchases at a convenience store in Pembroke. A person of interest has been identified in this investigation and they are described as a white male wearing a black hooded jacket. A photo of the person of interest is attached.

Retailers are reminded to remain diligent with regards to checking the identification of those making lottery and/or cigarette purchases. Customers can be requested to remove items such as hoods and hats in order to properly identify themselves to the clerk.
The OPP would also like to remind all vehicle owners to take the following steps to reduce their chances of victimization:
• Roll up your vehicle windows
• Lock the vehicle and pocket the keys
• Park in a well-lit area if possible
• Never leave valuables in plain view
Locking up should also be applied to your home, garage, sheds, and outbuildings.
