(PEMBROKE, ON) – The Upper Ottawa Valley Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is currently investigating the theft of a maroon four-door 2014 Ford Escape SUV from the driveway of a residence on Thompson Street in the City of Pembroke. The vehicle was stolen during the overnight hours of September 27-28, 2020. Ontario marker CAVV336 was attached to the vehicle at the time of the theft. The vehicle had been left unlocked with the keys inside. It was reported stolen at approximately 5:20 a.m. September 28, 2020.

On the morning of September 28, 2020, at just before 7:00 a.m., a second vehicle was reported stolen from a parking lot of a business on Pembroke Street East in Pembroke. The vehicle had been left unlocked with the keys inside. This vehicle was located just before 7:00 a.m. after it had been abandoned and set on fire on Irving Street in Pembroke.

Police are also investigating after the ignition was damaged on a vehicle that was parked at a business on Nelson Street over the weekend of September 26-27, 2020. The vehicle was not stolen. The damage was reported on the morning of September 28, 2020.

The OPP remind all vehicle owners to take the following steps to reduce their chances of victimization:

  • Roll up your vehicle windows
  • Lock the vehicle and pocket the keys
  • Park in a well-lit area if possible
